I can’t even remember where I ran into Kat, it might have been in Utata, who knows, but I have been smitten with her ever since. She is technical and creative, that does not happen very often. She takes the most beautiful portraits ever seen on flickr. She is humble, sweet, and courteous, in a competitive world of photography that can be hard to find. Needless to say, I adore her and I am sure you will too. She has just started her blog and her stream is full of all things beautiful, including her little guy Tookie.
1. What do you shoot with?
Canon 40D and the 24-70 2.8L, among others, but this lens is the most versatile of all the ones I use.
2. What is your favorite photo on flickr? (one of yours and one other photographer)
It’s so hard to pick a favorite in both of these, but one of my own favorites has to be this one. I love the sign in it and I love the little guy’s pose on the end. (the set)
Another photographer?
There are so many beautiful and inspiring photos I could have chosen and if you asked me tomorrow I would probably choose a different one, but I love the emotion and the cinematic quality of this photo:

3. What would be one tip for someone new to photography?
The biggest tip I would offer is to learn how to use your camera in Manual mode. I truly believe that being comfortable in Manual mode will transform your photography and will allow you to master all of the other things like seeing and manipulating light.
4. If you had to choose between stills, macro, portrait, landscape, what would you choose?
While I love all types of photography, if I had to choose only one, it would absolutely be portraits. I love capturing all of the emotions people, and children in particular, are capable of. I especially try to capture those nuanced moments that you would otherwise miss with the naked eye.

5. Who’s photography influenced you the most in the beginning stages of your own photography?
It would have to be Nichole Van and {Leah}. Their child portraiture was some of the first I was exposed to on Flickr and really had a huge impact on the way I went on to document the daily life of my newborn son.
6. Where do you get your greatest inspiration now?
My greatest inspiration comes from God and my son, but as far as photographers, I am hugely inspired by Tara Whitney, Michael Smith, Nate Kaiser, Amelia & Justin Lyon, Red Leaf Studios and Ben Chrisman.
7. Who are your top five favorite photographers on flickr right now?
It’s so difficult to narrow it down to just 5, but since that’s all I get, here goes:
LJ (Lee)
|Ash Imagery| (Michael Smith)
PixelBoy (Jonas Peterson)
PinkleToes (Michele Anderson)
AndreaHanki
